Christmas is for the whole year

Yesterday, we took down our Christmas decorations. Another Christmas has come and gone leaving marks of its fingerprints and memories on our lives. Ones we will cherish for years to come. Tidying up and packing away for another year, brought home the realisation that Christmas is more than decorations coming out of and going back into a box.

Christmas isn’t meant to be packed away for another year, hidden and forgotten. Christmas is to be remembered, put on display, long after it is over because Christmas makes a difference that lasts a life-time. Christmas is the story of a life lived, a gift given which goes on living and giving. Christmas enables and empowers us who receive this life and gift to truly live and give.

Christmas is the celebration of a life which embodies everything we need to live life. Jesus!

Christmas is the story of a life living in our hearts so that the New Year we face becomes one we can fully embrace without fear.

Christmas is so much more than Mary and Joseph, a baby born in a manger, shepherds and wise men, carols and candles, food and chats, fun and games, family and friends. Christmas is the story of the God of Heaven becoming flesh bringing change to our story. Christmas is the story of the God of Heaven moving into the neighbourhood, doing life with the ones He created so that we can have life and do life fully with one another.

The Christmas story lives on. It’s the story of the crucified One, the risen One, the One who brings life and hope. It’s the story of One who transforms our story. It’s the story of a life breathing hope on the unknown. It’s the story of one life touching our lives and changing them forever.

The very One who embodies everything we need enables us to live in power and victory even in the midst of the mysteries, the waiting, and the unknown.

It’s not knowing what 2017 will hold that will determine a good year. It’s knowing the One who holds 2017 that will make a difference.

The very one who created us will carry us and be all that we need in every situation we face. He is waiting for us to invite Him into this New Year. He wants to walk with us each step of the way, reassuring us of His life, giving us guidance, protection, and the grace to live life to the full, regardless of what we face.

As we embrace another year, let’s draw near to the One whose story will determine our story. With eyes fixed on the One who holds us, sustains us, protects us, and gives us life and hope, we can confidently walk through the opened door to 2017.

Eyes locked on Him will eliminate fear and anxiety and cause faith and hope to rise.

Jesus, the One we celebrated at Christmas and whose story changes our story, holds  our 2017 together. We can trust the One who holds our year.

In the words of Eugene Petersen, “A trusting life won’t topple.”

Frustrations, irritations, disappointments, unanswered prayers, breakthroughs not yet experienced won’t cause us to fray at the edges and unravel because the One who holds all things together holds us in His hands sustaining us each step of the way.

I will be your God throughout your lifetime – until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

Isaiah 46:4

You crown the year with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.

Psalm 65:11

May this be your experience in 2017.

I would like to thank all of you who read gracenotes from heaven. I pray for each one of you that this will be a year of hope, joy, and peace, greater revelation of who the Father is and all that He has for you. May blessings, favour, and honour rest on your lives and may 2017 be your best year yet as you remain focused on the One who created you and is carrying you.

Such a joy and blessing to read, especially since what you have written is so beautifully lived out in your and Jonathan’s lives. I still have so many peaceful memories of your time here. You were both such a blessing to us both practically and spiritually. Thank you. If He should tarry, may 2017 be a blessed year for all of you. Love you so much, Mom. Keep looking up!!
