The room was quiet. She sat opposite me, head down and brow furrowed. “The Father loves you and is proud of you” broke the silence. Almost immediately her lips formed a smile, the furrowed brow disappeared and her head lifted. Those softly spoken words “The Father loves you and is proud of you” changed her countenance.
We all need to hear this simple and yet profound statement. “The Father loves you and is proud of you”. Stop for a moment and let those words sink in.
“The Father loves you and is proud of you”.
At the core of the Father’s being is love. Unconditional, unfailing, amazing, authentic love for the very ones He created. David knew this. He was constantly aware of God’s unfailing love. “The unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.” (Psalm 33.5) It was God’s unfailing love that restored him when he sinned, sustained him when he was overwhelmed, confused, and life seemed too much, and kept him going when he was on top of the world. He never lost sight of God and His unfailing love.
Someone once said, “Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”
The Father has given love its truest meaning. He sent Jesus to reveal His heart of love for a broken and needy world. He sent Jesus to restore intimacy (that love relationship) after it had been broken in the garden of Eden. Jesus was the perfect personification and revelation of the Father’s love. That perfect love is whispering to you today. Can you hear it?
Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Now remain in my love.” (John 15.9) The Message says, “Make yourselves at home in my love.” Making ourselves at home in His love is enjoying His company, feeling comfortable with, and being secure in who we are in Him. Later Jesus prays to His Father, “I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.” (John 17.26)
Allow the whispers of the Father’s love to make you smile and lift your head. His whispers of love will awaken your soul, open your eyes to see yourself, others, and the world around you differently. His whispers of love will transform, heal, encourage, and bring to life the withered and dry places to which you have resigned yourself.
His whispers of love will give purpose, meaning, hope, and security which will lead to authentic joyful living.
Lent has begun and everyone is talking about what they are going to fast. What would it look like if during our fast we began to feast on the Father’s love? We began to make ourselves at home in His love? We began to listen out for His whispers of love?
A fresh touch of His love will heal hearts so they can feel what He feels, will enable eyes to see what He sees and ears to hear what He hears.
“May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3.18-19)
A fresh touch of His love will make you complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
So what’s the point? Without the Father’s love there is no point.
Ask for a fresh touch of His love. Feast on His love today, listen to his whispers of love and be forever changed.
