We stand on the shore of another year. The waves of 2014 have come and gone. They have made their mark. The waves of 2015 will soon wet our toes and call us out into the ocean. We don’t know what to expect. It’ll be a challenge to know which waves to surf and which ones to let pass. Some we can choose, others we have no control over whether they invade our lives or not.
How can we venture into 2015 with grace, courage, and hope?
King Solomon wrote in Proverbs
Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
We have just celebrated the greatest gift we could ever receive at Christmas. The gift of Jesus. God in person. God revealed to His people. God made accessible. God’s word proven to be true in the person of Jesus.
Unlike any other gift, unwrapping the gift of Jesus will take a life-time. The more we unwrap who He is and all He wants to be in our lives, the more we will realise that Jesus is enough.
When God saw our need, He provided Jesus.
Just like Abraham could depend on the promise and provision of the Lord when asked to sacrifice his son (Genesis 22), so we can know that whatever we face, provision and protection will always be there in 2015.
We need to train our eyes to see Jesus for who He is and allow Him to be our good Shepherd, our Light, our Bread of life, the Word, our Bright Morning Star, our Redeemer, our King of Kings, our Lord of Lords, our Teacher, our Prince of Peace, our Cornerstone, our Physician. Not just in theory but in reality. Not just when we feel like it but when we don’t. Not just every now and again but in every situation we face.
When our focus is on who Jesus is and we allow the truth of His very person to shape our thinking and to soften our hearts we can enter another year full of hope and courage knowing that Jesus is enough.
The closer we draw to Him, the more we’ll be ruled by grace, hope, and courage and less by fear.
May 2015 be a God-inspired, Christ-filled, and Holy Spirit empowered year.
O God our Saviour. You are the hope of everyone on earth.
2015 will only make sense when lived with Jesus at the core.
Jesus alone will provide the grace, hope, and courage we need to surf our God-intended waves for 2015.
